Vampire movies

Update May 4 2016

Seems the remakes still are “under development” which is cool. Not that there’s too much hope – but still, there are literally no vampire movies out there, so new ones are always great. And still looking forward to see reimaginations of the classics…

Original post from August 8 2012

Vampires are the most popular fictional creatures in history and yet there are so few movies (even less good ones) about them… I just don’t get it.
Here is a list of all the (major) movies involving vampires – ignoring everything before the 70s.

The Last Voyage of Demeter
Van Helsing (looks like crap)
Only Lovers Left Alive
The Redemption of Cain
Vampire Academy: Blood Sisters (looks like crap)

The Great Ones

Let The Right One In
Let Me In (American remake)

Average movies

The Lost Boys
Blade series
Near Dark
Interview with the vampire
Fright Night (1985)
Fright Night (2011)
30 Days of Night
The Hunger
Underworld series

The rest

Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter
Twilight series
Dracula 2000
Queen of the Damned
Van Helsing
Night Watch

Dracula (2013)
Untitled Sam Mendes vampire hunter (Unknown)

Blade: The Series (pretty cool)
True Blood (more or less okay)

Buffy the Vampire Slayer (bad)
Kindred: The Embraced (bad)
Moonlight (bad)
The Vampire Diaries (bad)

Too bad most vampire projects are just about some kind of supernatural monster horror story instead of a dark and sexy Gothic tale about deep sadness, desperation and “eternal greed”.

Still waiting for some kind of Vampire The Masquerade: Redemption movie project…
A Gothic trilogy about a vampire travelling through time for his love… as well as finally a movie version of the greatest (German) musical Tanz der Vampire (based on Polanskis comedy).
You can dream, right?! :)

  1. Stoker’s not a vamp movie.

  3. At first rumors were it may be a vampire movie but yeah, probably not after all.

  5. For me, Blade: The Series was pretty silly, “humans snorting vampire ash and using it as a drug. Blade must stop that madness” and the scientific comic book thing about Blade is not funny, at least for me. I don’t think Dracula (1992) is one of the greatest, visually it is.

Vampire Academy… its plot sounds like a school to train Blades! Dhampirs fighting evil vampires to protect humanity. It probably will be gory like its trailer suggest, but dialogues like “if I survive the graduation” is disappointing.
