Massively Multiplayer

The genre of massively multiplayer online games never surpassed its initial promise. The idea behind them is so fascinating, yet so far there hasn’t been a single great one. Just as games in general get better, new sandbox projects finally seem to get what a true multiplayer experience is supposed be though. While the “survival” genre is quite popular, the mmo genre itself is still far from its potential and not that many interesting projects are out there. The few that are, are struggling and pretty small in comparison to the “golden age” a few years back. Which isn’t necessarily a bad thing of course.

Being the smallest project on this list, for me personally it obviously still is the most interesting one. Because? Vampires. Duh.
This website started as the first fansite dedicated to CCP’s World of Darkness. At first I didn’t follow this project too much because of its team size (and therefore quality in artdesign and so on) it wasn’t as compelling. In the meantime I’m very much looking forward to follow its development. It very well could be the multiplayer game I and we were supposed to get with WoD.

While this is the most generic and traditional mmo on the list, just the character creation tool alone should be worth checking out. Besides cancelled WoD by CCP it has easily the most impressive character appearance possibilities.

  1. Great list! I’ve not kept up with all the new mmos (except BDO of course) so this is really handy. My lil bro will love World of Speed. I prefer storyline in my mmos 8’D So looking forward to all them rpg style mmos! ARK looks pretty interesting too! Haven’t really delved into survival much, but the world looks fascinating.

  3. I’m looking forward to BDO. I tried the character creation download they had and that alone is amazing. The graphics are just gorgeous. I’ve been following it for a while and have been waiting for it to release for NA/EU. I watched a video for a Desert Dragon boss that takes about 10-30 minutes to kill (and you need at least 1500 HP to not get one-shotted). Tamer so far looks to be my favorite class, but I always gravitate towards pet classes. :) Star Citizen looks great as well!

  5. I’m looking forward to the new WoW expansion and Star Citizen! While Star Citizen has a lot of negativity towards it at the moment, I do think it will end up being pretty good; there’s the possibility that funds are being mismanaged and things, but I haven’t seen any real evidence of that so far and the alpha has been a hell of a lot of fun (When it works!).

  7. Other than BDO, I’m really interested in Albion Online, and Camelot. Other than MMO, I just need Dark Souls 3 and I’m all set for this year :)

  9. I find it interesting that despite the fact that hardcore and pvp focused mmorpgs continue to do badly in the West, publishers continue to push forward games with this as the games main features. Black Desert and Blade and Soul are perfect examples of this. And I believe Camelot Unchained?

What’s the point? I hope that Black Desert wont disappoint me! The Streams and Videos I watched are fcking nice!

  15. Good list! I really like the Naval Action consept, but I think I will wait some more before I buy that game. I have high hopes for Star Citizen, I bough the game in july 2014, and they are making great progress! Black Desert looks very cool aswell, It was more than a year ago since I first heard about it, but then it didnt seem it will reach europe in a long time.

  17. Black Desert Online and Camelot Unchained are the two MMOs I’m looking forward to the most. I think they both offer a very unique and varied gameplay, of course Camelot moreso. The Realm vs Realm in Camelot seems interesting to try. I’d still like to give BDO a shot though. It’s sold I think over 300,000 copies at this point but I’d rather try it before I buy it.

  19. The Division gonna be overpriced i think… World was small (while playing i checked map, and it was terrible!). Definately waiting for Star Citizen, it might be great game, with so much things to do, for years to come! (I have played Eve, and it seems SC will be eating up my time too!)

  21. Since noone is confirming, I will skip giving out keys publicly. Plus, most people who were entering, already had a beta key from somewhere else. If you still shouldn’t have one, contact me on Twitter.
